PubMedMakerII is a bibliographic software for Macintosh users who are familiar with PubMed <http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/>: a free on-line MEDLINE. PubMedMakerII automatically transfers PubMed text data to FileMakerPro® file. PubMedMakerII also makes Reference list with rich text format (RTF), HTML format, or plain text. You can easily arrange it to fit the journal’s format to which you are going to contribute.

What's new PubMedMakerII 3.5 (Aug 20, 2000)
1. Big Input Page: Three layouts of Input Page are prepared using 12 point font. According to monitor’s resolution, most suitable window appears. The window expands to total height of screen in case of 1024 x768 dot monitor, ex. PowerBook G3.
2. Big List Page: If you use more than 800x600 dot monitor, a big List Page with14 point font is available.
3. Improvement of check box and font button: Annoying field selection frames of FileMakerPro do not appear when you use check boxes of record selection, get paper check, smart window check, and font selection. By just click font radio button, the Input Page changes immediately.
4. PubMed button: You can directly open PubMed Summary Page of the literature from FileMakerPro file. You can read full text in a part of pay journals without password when you enter the page through journal link icon of PubMed Summary Page. Such journals include J Biol Chem, Biochim Biophys Acta, J Exp Med, Blood, Int Immunol, and so on.
5. Link to on-line from List Page: Direct link function to on-line journal, PubMed Summary Page, and PDF file is available from List Page.
6. Speak all records: Speak All Title and Speak All Abstract commands are added.
7. Compatible with iCab: Add Text button can accept converted file of query.fcgi by iCab.
8. Bug fix for FileMakerPro 3: Window zooms to proper size with FileMakerPro 3.0. PDF button functions with FileMakerPro 3.0. FileMakerPro 3.0 users can select iCab as a default browser to open URL.
9. Bug fix of conversion: Year extraction error is fixed when journal includes “Pt 20” or “Pt 19”.
Note: If you are a registered user of PubMedMakerII 3.0-3.3, you can use PubMedMakerII 3.5 with the same registration code of PubMedMakerII 3.0-3.3. Please double click PubMedMakerII 3.5 and enter that code.
How to make FileMaker file from PubMed text with PubMedMakerII
1. Save text file from PubMed with MEDLINE format.
2. Drag&drop the text file on PubMedConverter to make converted file.
3. Drag&drop the converted file (.cvt) on PubMedMakerII to make FileMakerPro file. You can use this FileMakerPro file as Reference browser. Converted file is automatically moved to Trash.
Note 1: Put converted text file in the PubMedMakerIIe folder. PubMedMakerIIe cannot recognize text file outside the PubMedMakerIIe folder.
4. Select records in the FileMaker file and make Reference.FM with “Make RefList” button. After setup Reference to fit the journal’s format you contribute to, you can output styled text file (Reference.RTF), plain text file (Reference.TXT), or HTML file (Reference.List, Reference.Table).
Note 2: You can use FileMaker file at any place, but when you make Reference.FM, put FileMaker file in the PubMedMakerIIe folder.
Note 3: PubMedMakerII program must be one on the hard disk. When you copy a new version of PubMedMakerII, please delete old one. If two or more PubMedMakerII programs co-exist on the hard disk, you cannot make Reference.FM.
Other required applications and system requirment
You need FileMakerPro 3.0-5.0. If you want to use styled text with RTF in the Reference list, you need RTF compatible word processor, such as, MicrosoftWord/AppleWorks/Write now. PubMedMakerII 3.3 runs under any PowerPC and 68K Macintosh installed MacOS 7.6 or later and AppleScript. For practical use G3-G4 Macintosh installed MacOS 8.5 -9 is recommended (Mac OS 9 compatible).
Registration of PubMedMakerII 3.5
1. Unregistered use
You can use PubMedMakerII 3.5 for the trial period of 60 days. If you decide to continue to use it, please register. A splash screen will be preceeded by each conversion when you drag & drop PubMed text file on PubMedConverter2.1 under unregistered use. To click “Just Try” gives you converterted file. This file is used for following steps described above. A splash screen preceeded by each conversion is eliminated and limitation of 60 days usage is removed after registration.
2. Registration process
-1) License cost Single user licenses, US$25 per user. A Site License costs US$500 and covers all locations for your organization. One big advantage of a Site License is that you do not need to keep track of how many people at your site are using the software.
-2) Payment methods
(1) Using on-line registration via web browser
To pay on-line just visit my on-line Web registration page at: <http://order.kagi.com/?ZWK>. You need a credit card (VISA, MasterCard or American Express) and a Forms capable browser. Secure (SSL) registration web pages are available.
(2) Using Register program
Open the Register program that accompanies PubMedMakerIIe. Enter your name, your email address, and the number of single user licenses you desire for each program you wish to purchase (or Site licenses). Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi. More specifics on the Register program to follow. Kagi handles my payment processing.
If paying with Credit Card, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register program and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgement.

PubMedMakerII 3.3 (June 1, 2000)
1. Write page: If you missed records in PubMed, now you can write such papers of Journal, Chapter in Book, and Book at Write page of PubMed file.
2. PMID, UI, ISSN: These numbers are extracted and shown in each page and in abstract prints.
3. Table output with HTML: You can output Table-sytle Reference list with HTML format.
4. Improvement of PubMedConverter: PubMedConverter becomes version 2.1.
